Jason Barnett : July 14 through July 28
Dallas, Texas – Dallas artist Jason Barnett will be showing new work entitled “Ocular Homunculi” at IR Gallery, located at 830 Exposition Avenue, suite 103. The show runs from July 14 through July 28 with a reception on Saturday, July 16 from 7:00-9:00 PM. Admission is free to the reception and art is available for viewing during regular gallery hours, which are Saturdays from 1-5 PM or by appointment.
Barnett’s oil on canvas paintings may at first glance might appear grotesque, even horrifying, but in reality, he’s portraying significant higher truths about the evolution of mankind. The works are meant to confront the viewer with the darker aspects of humanity, thus stripping one’s ego and allowing the symbolism behind the paintings to directly affect the viewer’s subconscious.
Barnett is a self-taught artist, part of the early Dallas graffiti movement, converting to oils after a ‘mystical experience’ in 2000. Shortly after, he began showing with the ‘Apt. Gallery’ group, which consisted of fellow artists Nicholas Mathis, Austin Turley, Zachary Broadhurst and Luke Harnden, all of whom have shown with IR Gallery or Pigeon-Stone Project venues.
Barnett’s exhibit marks the last-ever IR Gallery show in the current Exposition Avenue location. Hooray for an awesome year!!!
IR Gallery has been committed to showing work by local prolific artists working in all mediums that need space to communicate. Sarah Jane Semrad and Nyddia Hannah co-curate IR Gallery.
