Dallas painter Therese Power has a solo exhibition entitled “New Works” at IR Gallery, located at 830 Exposition Avenue, suite 103. The opening reception is Saturday December 18 from 7:00-9:00 and the show will hang through January 19, 2004. Admission is free to the reception and art is available for viewing during regular gallery hours, which are Saturdays from 1-5 PM or by appointment.

Therese is most well known for her brightly colored and architecturally inspired paintings that are presented in numerous panels beside and on top of each other. For this new series however, she has taken a step back into her childhood to reclaim the shades of black white and grey that she loved with pencil drawings. Her intent is to produce with paint pictures that mimic the lines of charcoal and graphite. “This may all be due to the striking contrast between black and white, the soothing scales of gradation or the iridescent nature of graphite itself” Therese remarks. All of her work incorporates many layers of paints and washes to produce texture, depth, and invoke curiosity.

Therese Power attended the University of Dallas and received a BFA in painting in 1996. Her work has been shown in numerous group and solo exhibits. Therese is also active in the Dallas artist community by being a key participant in several artist organizations. Her greatest inspirations are trips to European cities. Her pursuit of art is an attempt to find beauty in the ordinary.

IR Gallery is committed to showing work by local prolific artists working in all mediums that need space to communicate. Dallas photographer and artist Sarah Jane Semrad is curator of IR Gallery.
