Dallas, Texas – Dallas sculptor John Kim has a solo exhibition entitled “New Sculpture” at IR Gallery, located at 830 Exposition Avenue, suite 103. The opening reception is free and will be held on Friday November 19 from 7:00-9:00 pm. The show will hang through December 15, 2004. Art is available for viewing during regular gallery hours - Saturdays from 1-5 pm, or by appointment.

John’s evocative sculptural work expresses itself in the form of seeds, seed pods, and seemingly familiar yet unrecognizable biological forms. John says this of his work, “My interest in biology, specifically human physiology and anatomy, has been an enduring source of inspiration for my work. I am fascinated by the potentiality of seed pods in that they can seem static but imply withheld expression. I am exploring the idea of opposing forces; tensions. Sharp edges alongside curves, immobility versus growth.”

John Kim attended the Rhode Island School of Design and received a BFA in 2001. He has focused most of his creative energies on commercial design work but his current body of work evidences his interest in exploring his personal artistic vision more fully.

IR Gallery is committed to showing work by local, prolific artists who work in all mediums who need space to communicate. Dallas photographer and artist Sarah Jane Semrad is curator of IR Gallery.
