New Art Venue: IR Gallery Opening on Exposition Avenue

Dallas, Texas -- Dallas photographer and artist Sarah Jane Semrad is opening a new art venue called IR Gallery at 803 Exposition Avenue, Suite 103 in the heart of Exposition Park Arts District. The grand opening reception is scheduled for August 20 and 21, 2004 from 7-10 PM both nights. Featured will be twelve lith prints entitled new space by Sarah Jane Semrad as well as four color photographs-with-text entitled artifacts: by Daniel Miller. The receptions are free and open to the public. IR Gallery hours are Saturdays from 1PM-5PM or by appointment.
Sarah Jane is an accomplished self-taught photographer and has shown in numerous venues across North Texas, with her work in the collections of many Dallas area fine art patrons. Lith prints are Sarah Jane--s signature print style, featuring a beautiful variation on the traditional black and white print with mid-tones that are pink instead of grey. The site-specific exhibit entitled new space focuses on intimate details of the new art space, IR Gallery. Sarah Jane is a member of several artist organizations and manages three successful art venues in Dallas including the Magnolia Bar Gallery, located inside the Magnolia Theatre. "It's a natural step for me to run a venue like IR Gallery. I love meeting new artists and seeing what everyone is up to," Sarah Jane says. "As far as what I'm showing for the opening reception, I can--t wait for everyone to see how I see the gallery through my Lith prints."
Daniel Miller's photography is primarily concerned with unnoticed textures and the narrative characteristics of objects. "Artifacts:" is a pseudo-fiction told through the transitionary and transitory lives of things. Daniel has shown at Dada in Delray Beach, Florida, and in the US Embassy, Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. He publishes digitally at www.danielsjourney.com.
The office space in the back of IR Gallery houses a non-profit company called Integration Research run by entrepreneurs Daniel Miller and Dan Hughes. Integration Research (IR) is a cultural and technological incubator in the form of art collective, publisher and software developer. IR is interested in exploring new ways of approaching the economics of cultural production and consumption, cultivating organic, technologically-enhanced networks of artists and art patrons. IR is committed to pursuing paradigms for the dissemination and distribution of artistic work that benefit both artists and art consumers. Included in IR's charter is a directive to "create virtual and physical spaces that catalyze and encourage artistic work, networking and display." IR Gallery is a natural extension of such an effort.

IR Gallery will feature a rotating selection of local talent as well as a permanent collection that will hang when shows are not scheduled. One can expect to see all mediums in the space and something new just about every visit. In addition, IR Gallery will host community events in the form of networking gatherings for Sarah Jane--s other long-term project, the Dallas Alternative Chamber of Commerce. IR Gallery is open Saturdays from 1-5 PM, during receptions, and by appointment.
